If you are a new or experienced reseller, here are 10 things you should make sure never to forget to do.
1. Leave out flaws
When selling on various platforms your reputation means everything so don’t ruin it with bad reviews. And you will receive horrible reviews if the items you sell are not as listed. So make sure to inform buyers of any flaws, tears, stains, pilling etc and include photographs.
2. Don’t over pay
Overpaying for an item can really eat into your profits so refrain from paying too much for an item. Know your stores big sale times so you can always get the best deals.
3. Be active on social media
If you’re a serious reseller you’ll definitely want to be active on social media as this will regularly bring attention to your store and hopefully bring more buyers.
4. Not share your items
If you share on Poshmark, you want to regularly share your items on the platform but also on other sites including social media.
5. Neglect to cross-list
If you have the time, cross-listing your items will greatly improve your chances of making sales. Try apps like List Perfectly to help you out.
6. over buy
Just like with over spending, over buying can be just as detrimental. If your items pile up until they become overwhelming you may never list them. Overbuying often leads to what many resellers call ‘death piles’, which can cause many resellers to give up and send all their items back to the thrift store
7. Forget to research
Throughly research your items prior to buying them if you have the chance. Not doing so can cause you to purchase an item that you think is worth a lot but will really just be a waste of money
8. Not keeping records
Since you are running a business you should keep records as such. If you want to know more about which records to keep you can read our blog article here.
9. Not write off equipment
If you have to purchase equipment for your resale business like a camera, computer, or lighting you can write that off. Speak with an accountant to know exactly what you can and can not write off.
10. Not keeping up with new trends
As a reseller you should keep up with not only new fashion trends, but also various trends on social media. Social media sites update their platforms throughout the year and this alters the way you can reach customers so you should always remain abreast of any changes
